LTC (R) Paul Riley
Air Defense Artillery · United States Army · 1980s–2010s
LTC (R) Paul Riley sat down with me for Heroes I Know. Eighty-five minutes. A lost lieutenant story among a million laughs.
Born November 1967. Army brat. Dad was an air defense officer who rose and retired two-star. Paul grew up in that house.
Desert Storm. Platoon leader. LID. Lost in the desert. He says it is one of the more classic ones. He still tells it.
They promoted him to lieutenant colonel. He says well above what he was capable of doing. That is not true. He was the most fun I ever worked for. Officers do not sign out the way first sergeants do. He still called the first sergeant to take charge of the battery.
Thank you, sir. That is why we hit record. Get the story on tape before we are too old or too sick to tell it.
