Will Marshall

Retired Army first sergeant. 82nd Airborne. Jumpmaster. Writer. Multi-instrumentalist. The man in the middle of the conversation.

I like learning new things, new skills. I like people. I’m enjoying writing and playing music and flying drones. Also enjoying the new business that we have started. I’m in my fifties now and retired from the Army. Telling a few stories about the old days and a few about the soon to be old days.

Marshall in the Middle is where I share stories of service, courage, and personal growth. You are here for veteran interviews. You are seeking spiritual insights. Or maybe you love good old-fashioned country music. I hope you find something meaningful. Let’s keep the conversation going, and remember, we’re all a part of this great adventure called life.

I came up in the 82nd Airborne Division, 3-4 Air Defense Artillery — AUDACIA, by daring deeds. We were the only air defense unit in the free world prepared to jump our equipment. Vulcans. Avengers. Sentinels. Stingers. We strapped it on and rode it in. My favorite times in uniform were as a first sergeant. My soldiers were my teammates. Quigley, Phillips, Ramirez — I still hear the empty places at roll call.

I am married to Pennie Cox-Marshall, a local attorney. On stage I play guitar, harmonica, banjo, spoons and more with Denise Crawford as Crawford & Marshall. Off stage I sit down with veterans and hit record, because one day those stories are gone.

If you were in my foxhole, I love you. You are my hero.
