SFC (R) Joe Davis
Air Defense Artillery · United States Army · 1990s–2010s
Heard once
SFC (R) Joe Davis sat down with me for Heroes I Know. His real love is ADA. He said it straight.
After Bliss they sent him to Third Armored. They dropped him in the motor pool. Stinger. Being top gun was the aim. He represented the battery. He still laughs with those veterans about that competition. It meant a lot then. It still sticks.
He got older. Married. Kids. The boys. War. He realized his time was getting short for the civilian world and went after the education he had put off.
Then the heart. A transplant. He is fifty-one trying to get to fifty-two. Wife. Family. Church. He said they do not retire from being grateful. They are enjoying their best lives now because they know what a day is worth.
He is fortunate to tell it. A lot of us are not here to tell ours. Thank you, Joe. That is why we hit record. Get the story on tape before we are too old or too sick to tell it.
