SSG Marcus Maple

Staff Sergeant Marcus Maple sat down with me for Heroes Live.

He enlisted after high school to get out of a small town and take care of a family. Married Tiffany, his high school sweetheart, right before basic. 1999.

Fort Riley. DFAC. Dark to dark. Short order. Chili. He put beans in it without asking and they smoked him. He never failed a PT test. Cooks catch a reputation. He would not carry it.

Korea twice with Bravo, 552nd. Reverse cycle. Field problems. The camaraderie was the point. As a sergeant he ran shifts. Stson Thompson. Ski. He stayed out of the politics and took care of the line.

Dion Bryant. Barracks bathroom. A jealous peer beat him near to death while they were on restriction. Marcus and the others got him to the hospital. Bryant never fully recovered. They still talk.

Grandfather was a minister. If you are going to be stupid, you better be tough. I can do all things through Christ. He walks by faith instead of sight.

Medically retired. The Army broke the body down. No regrets. More time. Tiffany. Marcus II catching everything they throw. Jasmine on The Voice. Jessica. Antoinette. A grandson. He cooks for the church learning center and fishes.

Thank you, Marcus. That is why we hit record. Get the story on tape before we are too old or too sick to tell it.
