LTC Jon Lindsley
Ranger · 82nd Airborne · United States Army · 1990s–
LTC Jon Lindsley sat down with me for Heroes I Know. Fifty-one minutes. He laughs and laughs. Airborne. Jumpmaster. Ranger. Eagles on the shoulders.
Rural Mississippi. About forty acres. Granddad over two hundred. Always something that needed doing. One blinking red light. Class of about sixty-eight. Guard at seventeen. No other plans. Basic the summer of high school. Came back. Graduated. AIT.
Uncle was 75th Ranger. He looked up to him. Iraq, December 2006. Career course at Lee. Ranger company command at Benning. Third Brigade. Afghanistan 2016 and 2017. Then OC in Germany. Three deployments with that.
Wife said she could not do a third winter. Professor of Military Science. Ole Miss. Eleven months three weeks. Found out the change-of-command date was a month later. Rapid PCS. Family in full. Thank you, sir. That is why we hit record. Get the story on tape before we are too old or too sick to tell it.
