BG (R) John Seward
108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade · United States Army · Alaska to Fort Bliss

BG (R) John Seward sat down with me for Heroes Live.
Missouri. St. Louis. Then St. Charles. Both parents were cops. His dad's name was on the pickup. They saw him fly over an overpass. Saw you tonight.
Wrestler. Defensive tackle. They lost Friday Night Lights. Four policemen. Two German Shepherds. Saturday afternoon football after that. He still coaches pee-wee wrestling. Last grandson aging out.
No desire for West Point. Two of his daughters went. He went ROTC at Mizzou. First assignment. Alaska. Infantry. 1-60th. Foxholes in permafrost. Like concrete. Airborne. Air assault. Platoon leader a year. Then S3 Air. Charlie Company was the airborne company.
Jumpmaster school at Fort Richardson. Mobile training team from Benning. Seven days a week. JMPI until it lived in his hands. He would not fail that course.
He did not start in air defense. Met his wife at Sheppard. Air Force nurse. He was a second lieutenant. She made captain while he was still a lieutenant. Six months pregnant before they lived in the same house. Four daughters. All Army or married to it. One Navy couple. Thirteen grandchildren.
Battalion command. 1-81 ADA. Bragg. Then the 108th at Bliss. Patriot. 9/11. Spun up. He jumped with a broken leg rather than lose status. Specialist Goldsberry's ALICE pack popped two ribs under the aircraft.
Find us faithful. Faithful to the country. To the mission. To them. Brigadier General retired John Seward signing off. That is why we hit record. Get the story on tape before we are too old or too sick to tell it.
