Joshua Shelton

Joshua Shelton sat down with me for Heroes Live.

I stole his pictures off Facebook and built a slideshow. Somebody thought he had passed. He had not. He looks about twenty-four.

Born in Heidelberg. Dad was Army. Fort Huachuca. Fort Carson. Dad retired. Civilian job at Fort McPherson. Formative years in Peachtree City. South of Atlanta. From about age ten. Still there. His kids go to the same high school he did.

Terrible at athletics. Right field. Batted last. Funny kid. Humor is how he gets in. Standing on a stage still terrifies him. This chair was him defying his own gravity.

Crime scene investigator. Sheriff's office. 2002. Thirteen years. Detective the whole time. Violent crime. Crimes against kids. Thirty cases at a time. Impossible load. He left around 2014. Private sector. Investigations. Manageable now. A big project dropped on him. Six weeks to get ready. Best inoculation for stress is preparation.

Wife is the smart one. Three kids. Oldest daughter just got her license. Middle girl plays volleyball and basketball. Son on the track. He cooks dinner every night. Fried rice. Day-old rice. Pork fat.

Everyone has gravity. The only way to grow is to defy it. Be uncomfortable. That is why we hit record. Get the story on tape before we are too old or too sick to tell it.
