CW4 (R) Tracy Harris

5-52 ADA · United States Army · 2000s

Chief Warrant Officer Four (Retired) Tracy Harris sat down with me for Heroes Live.

He was a teammate in my first Patriot unit. I looked up to him to tell me what right looked like. I did not know. Warrant officers had done the job as NCOs. Then they got selected. Tactical. Technical. Missile. Radar.

Charlotte, Tennessee. West of Nashville. About forty minutes. Hills. Cumberland River. Forty minutes from Campbell too. Before he was an air defender he spent almost three years at Fort Campbell. Loved it the first six months. Then the road only ran from his house to the relatives.

He lives in Burkburnett, Texas now. About forty-five minutes from Sill. South of the Red River. He did not want to live in Oklahoma after he retired. Five acres. South end of town. Just inside city limits so they can tax him. Peace and quiet. RF antenna for internet. No cable out there.

Favorite unit. He had good times in HHQ 5-52. Bravo 5-52 was not bad either. 2008 they went back to the UAE and stood up firing batteries in a country that had not seen it in a few years. Last assignment was Fort Sill. FCoE. On the road every week. Skull dragged. That is why he retired. He needed a break.

Two great kids. One is at Midwestern State. Junior year. Registered nurse. They drove her home in May. Nine hours to El Paso. He wishes there was a middle. Ashley and the grandkids near White Sands. He gets out there when he can.

Chief Munoz. Old 5-52 maintenance. JROTC now. Almost pulled him over on 375. Cop car keeping pace. Tracy looked over. It was Munoz.

Take care of yourself. Do the best you can every day. That is why we hit record. Get the story on tape before we are too old or too sick to tell it.
